#NativeRISE: Embracing the Current

Friday, November 15, 2024
Nicollet Island Pavilion

40 Power Street, Minneapolis, MN

5:30pm – Social Hour
7:00pm – Dinner & Program

Join us for a special evening to support American Indian OIC. Together, we will address the disproportionate impact of the criminal justice system on people of color in Minnesota, and we will celebrate the incredible work of our team and partners who have helped more than 400 men and women transition from incarceration to meaningful employment over the past four years.

Hear from community leaders and be inspired by remarks from Louise Waakaa'igan, a gifted poet and 2016 winner of the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop's Broadside Competition.

Together, let's embrace the current of hope and opportunity. Your presence makes a difference.

About Us

American Indian OIC was founded by American Indian Movement leaders in 1979 to address the education and employment disparities faced by relocated Native American families living in and around South Minneapolis. The organization was established as a job search service, but now offers multi-faceted education and workforce development programming through its alternative high school, Adult Basic Education program, licensed job training center, and financial wellness and career coaching services. The goal of these programs is to reduce racial and economic disparities by providing participants with the foundational education and support needed to pursue career opportunities that result in economic independence. AIOIC’s mission is to empower American Indian people to pursue career opportunities by providing individualized education, training, and human services in a culturally rich environment. Although founded to serve clients of Native descent, most of the organization’s programming is available to anyone regardless of race, creed, gender, religion, age, or sexual orientation.
