What is the Never Alone Cancer Walk/Run?

We started Paws for a Cause Cancer Walk as an annual fundraiser for the Never Alone Cancer Foundation.

We decided this year to expand to include a 5K Fun Run.

This event is a great opportunity for the community to walk/run together in support of those who are affected by cancer now. Your efforts will provide assistance with medication, transportation, financial and other medical expenses.  We also offer the Day Away Program which allows individuals, families and caregivers affected by cancer the opportunity to experience a break from everyday life by attending a memorable event.  When cancer becomes your life, sometimes it’s about finding the small joys that can truly make a difference.

This year the Winnipeg walk falls on Rosh Hashanah, do you have an alternate date?

As we were not able to reschedule, we'd be most appreciative if people observing Rosh Hashanah would consider signing up for the self walk which runs September 10 - September 24. Several walkers have indicated that they will walk at Kildonan Park on September 24th.

What if I don't have a dog for the Walk?

This event is for EVERYONE, we just love dogs and want people to get out with their canine buddies. More importantly we want people to walk and fundraise for cancer patients in Manitoba who need support NOW.

How do I set up and use my personal/team fundraising page?

How many can join my team?

You can have as many people as you want on your team. 1, 2, or even 20!

Please note: Top Team prize is limited to a maximum of 8 participants.

What do I do with cash and cheque donations?

You can record these types of donations two ways.

1) You can add the donation through your individual fundraising site.  On your indiviual fundraising site there is a tab called ‘My Donations’. There is a button under the thermometer that says ‘Add cash or check’. Click it and you can enter all the information there, and once we receive the donation at our end, the donation will be applied to your total.

2) On your fundraising site under the ‘Resources’ tab you can download a pledge form, get the donation(s) to us, and we’ll add it to your online total once we receive it.

Please call 204-779-2441 or email kathy@nacf.ca to arrange to drop off any donations.  You can also mail them to us (please do not mail cash). Just add a note to let us know who the donation is for.

Our mailing address is:

Never Alone Cancer Foundation
PO Box 51064, RPO Tyndall,
Winnipeg MB  R3X 2C6

The people who donate will receive their tax returns by email (if an email is provided) once we receive the donations. All other receipts will be mailed at the conclusion of the event.

How do I fundraise?

There are so many ways you can fundraise!

The first step is to register for Paws for a Cause Cancer Walk, Selkirk Walk or the Never Alone Cancer Fun Run and set a fundraising goal.

Once you register you get your own personal/team page that you can link on social media to spread the word.

We encourage you to use some of the following tags: #pawsforacausewpg #neveralone @neveralonefnd   #dogsofwinnipeg #dogs #cancer  #cancersupport  #funrun

Ask your family, friends and co-workers to donate to you or make a team and fundraise as a group.

Another option is to set up a challenge and donate the proceeds to your fundraising goal:

  • Give it up – commit to giving up a bad habit for a certain time and encourage friends and family for donations to encourage you to stay on track.
  • Donate your empties – ask friends and family to donate the proceeds of any bottles/cans.
  • Birthday/other celebration – ask for donations in lieu of gifts for your next celebration.
  • Dare – for every specific amount raised, you commit to doing something that someone dares you to do.

I live outside Canada, why does the site not let me donate to my friend/family member?

Unfortunately due to some issues with fraud, we have limited the site to Canadian based donations.

You can still contribute through our website at https://nacf.ca/donate/

The donation will go through an organization called CanadaHelps and you have an option to leave a note, just let us know who you are donating to and we will be sure it gets applied. You can also email kathy@nacf.ca for other options.

How does my donation help?

Your donations will have IMPACT:

$30 – would provide a patient 5 round trip bus tickets to get to appointments and treatments.

$70 – cost of one physio therapy appointment (pelvic floor exercises) to help patients with incontinence

$100 – cost of one lymphatic massage treatment which provides relief to patients whose extremities can swell due to cancer treatment.

$200 - would provide funding for patients with mobility issues who need grab bars, bath chairs, safety frames, walkers etc.

$2,000 - would provide dentures to a cancer patient who has lost their teeth due to radiation treatments.

What happens if I reach my goal but want to raise more?

If you reach your goal you can raise it.  On the main dashboard of your personal fundraising page you have the option to change it underneath the thermometer.

Are there prizes?

There will be prizes for:

Top 3 Individual Fundraisers

Top 2 Team Fundraisers

***Never Alone Team is ineligible for prizing

Totals for prizing will be cut off for both walks at 10am September 17, 2023

We will have more details on the prizes soon!

How is the Rescue involved?

Never Alone Cancer Foundation partners with a local rescue to bring more awareness to both our causes. Dogs play an intergral part in many people's lives and certainly enrich the lives of cancer patients. Our hope is that more people open their homes to foster dogs or adopt!

Never Alone will donate the funds that the Rescue team raises to their organization.
