My name is Ellie. I'm a 21 year old college student, sister, friend, daughter, and eating disorder survivor. Despite the misery of an eating disorder - for most people recovery is an extremely difficult choice, one that has to be made around 6 times a day. Do you know the key for success? Support. I am beyond lucky to have the most amazing friends and family. They have supported me through my worst days and been with me on my best days. I would not be where I am today without them. Unfortunately, Eating disorders are not just a desire to be "pretty" or whatever other misconceptions people have. They are serious, life threatening illnesses. Every 52 minutes someone dies as a direct result of their eating disorder.
Unfortunately, less than ⅓ will ever receive access to care. The National Alliance for Eating Disorders, has been working over the past two decades to change these statistics. Remember how I said that the support of my friends and family got me to where I am today? For people without that, the Alliance can be the only support they recieve. During the weekend of February 25-27, 2022, I will be participating in The Alliance’s Annual NOT ONE MORE Weekend.

In 2021 alone, more than 18,900 individuals from all 50 states and 65 countries around the world attended Alliance groups - myself included.The Alliance is the only national nonprofit organization that provides free, weekly, therapist-led eating disorders support groups; referral services for all levels of care; low-cost therapeutic services for uninsured and underinsured individuals; and unique and empowering Southern Smash events. Simply put, The Alliance saves lives.
