Welcome to Kathryn's Micro-Fundraising Page

This year's Packathon for Haiti is taking place on October 18 and 19, 2024 at Christ Church in Hamilton, MA. A Packathon is a gathering of volunteers to assemble meals of rice, beans, dehydrated vegetables and vitamins. Last year, volunteers worked in 2 hour shifts to assemble 50,000 meals to send to a school in St. Louis d’Ayiti, Haiti. Providing a free lunch achieves two results: Increased school attendance and improved academic performance (It's hard to concentrate when you are hungry.) For many children, this is the only meal that they can consistently count on. You have probably heard about the gang violence and chaos taking place in Haiti. One of our Haitian partners had to abandon his home. He fled not only with his family, but took all the children of a local orphanage with him to a safer location. We are so grateful that the meals we have packed have been getting to their destination despite dire circumstances.

Let me tell you a few things about St. Louis d'Ayiti:

  • Children in this mountain village are isolated from most of the country's violence.
  • They are attending school regularly while children in the urban areas are not attending school.
  • They are meeting in the school that donations have helped construct ( second phase paused due to COVID and the country's unrest.)
  • Our meals are getting delivered through a safe port in Cap Haitian to the north.
  • We are supporting teacher salaries.
  • We hope to provide financial resources for each child to have the books they need.
  • St. Louis d'Ayiti has a group of adults participating in an Adult Literacy Program.

There are three ways that you can choose to help:

1. Those who live locally can invite family and friends to sign up for a fast paced, fun packing session.

2. You can make a donation to pay for food.

Frankly, I know that most people already support other great charities.   However, at 37 cents for each serving of food, small amounts can have an impact.  So I agreed to do a Micro-Fundraiser:   I am asking for donations starting at 37 cents with a MAXIMUM individual donation limited to $6.00 (Six dollars) and a MAXIMUM family donation limited to $8.00 (Eight dollars.)

Unfortunately, this site only accepts a minimum contribution of $5.00.   For those donating less than $5.00 (which I hope will be the majority of my donors) you can either write a check made out to Future Forward For Haiti and mail it to Tom Skinner, 9 Juniper Street, Wenham, MA 01984 or just let me know what you want to donate and reimburse me later.    Another possiblity is to pool your donation with others to reach the $5.00 minimum for this site.  (See #3 below.)

If you use this site to donate, just check "Other Amount" when you get to the donation page.  Ignore all the large amount suggestions- I could not edit them out.   Also ignore any check box suggesting a donation to cover the site fee.   I will cover the site fees so every penny donated goes to providing food.

Remember:   Maximum of $6 per individual/ $8 per family.   NO exceptions!

3.   The third way to help is to conduct your own Micro-Fundraiser by telling a few people- e.g., your book club, bible study group or tennis partners - about the opportunity to provide a lunch for only thirty-seven cents.  Make it fun and low pressure, e.g., leave out a cup for their spare change.  Try to limit any donations to fifty cents per person.  You can also share the link to this page, with anyone who wants to learn more.   If they think your Micro-Fundraiser is crazy, just blame it on me.

This concept of a Micro-Fundraiser was born out of my experience with providing Micro Loans to the poor.  I already know that a little bit of help can go a long way. My modest goal of $141 can provide 300 servings of food!

Finally, if you decide not to make any donation, that's fine too.   I appreciate that you took the time to read this far.   I hope you enjoyed learning about good things happening in a world of bad news. Thank you!

North Shore Packathon 2023 is organized by Future Forward for Haiti, a registered 501c3 non-profit, with no paid employees, so over 95% of your gift will go to help in Haiti.

If you prefer to give with a check, please write it to Future Forward for Haiti and mail to Tom Skinner, 9 Juniper Street, Wenham, MA 01984.
