I am a Newport Rowing Club athlete and have been involved with the club just since the winter of 2019.
I love rowing. I started the winter of my freshman year and I haven't been able to stop. Despite complaining about it, I like waking up early and sore for practice and regattas. I love the routine of working out everyday and seeing and encouraging the same people over the course of a season. Sometimes I row so hard I don’t notice my hands are getting torn up on the oar til the end and I love that realization. I love stepping into a boat during the perfectly nice afternoon and not coming back to myself until it's dark and I’m stepping out of my seat. I love that rowing has put me into fantastic shape and dedicated me to my own fitness. I love that it’s put amazing people and opportunities into my life. I love that my boathouse feels like home and my teammates like family. I don’t love many things like I love rowing: completely, undoubtedly, and without any say in it myself.
NRC has been closed since March 13th and has continued working hard to provide stability, structure, and support for the 60 athletes and families in its programs. Our goal is to raise $13,000 which will cover just 1 month of NRC's operational costs including staff salaries. With your support NRC athletes will not only have continued structure and support from the dedicated staff now, but we will have a top-notch organization with consistent coaching staff ready to resume training in person as soon as we are able.
Thank you in advance for considering this request and for any donation amount you are able to provide. I greatly appreciate your support and please stay safe.
