Running Saved My Life—Now I Run for Mental Health

Running for the Mind...And for Life

Conoshia's RUNstimony

There are seasons in life that shape you… and others that truly test you.

After having my fourth baby at nearly 40, I found myself navigating a period that challenged me mentally in ways I never expected. On the outside, I was showing up—caring for my family, managing responsibilities, doing what needed to be done. But internally, I was struggling. My every day smile was forced. The person in the mirror that stared back at me was unrecognizeable. I was depressed.

Mental health is something that touches so many of us. In fact, more than 1 in 5 adults in the United States experience mental illness.

I am one of them.

During that time, I found something that helped me begin to heal—running.

What started as a simple outlet became so much more. Running gave me space to process, to breathe, and to reconnect with myself. It became a tool for healing during a time when I needed it most. In many ways, running helped save my life.

That is why I’ve chosen to take on the challenge of running the

2026 New York City Marathon with Team Still I Run.

Still I Run is a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and supporting individuals on their journey toward better mental well-being through running. The name itself is a powerful reminder of resilience—the decision to keep moving forward, even in the face of adversity.

I am connected to this mission both personally through lived experience and academically through my graduate training in Population Mental Health and Well-being.

Through this journey, I’m turning my personal experience into something bigger than myself.

Every step I take, every mile I run, is for those who are struggling, for those who feel unseen, and for those working to find their way back to themselves.

Your support helps fund programs, resources, and a community that reminds people they are not alone.

If you believe in mental health awareness, in breaking stigma, and in the power of healing through movement, I invite you to support this mission.
