Nowhere To Call Home...
Islamic Relief in Cox's Bazar!
“Fifty Miles and Further” for Islamic Relief: A Ramadan to Remember
According to reports by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, food insecurity was the most severe consequence for the Rohingya children in Cox’s Bazar and in host communities-- Let’s change that!
As Muslim Americans ourselves, we have had the ability to experience Ramadan in comfort with friends and family. We have memories to share and cherish.
With contaminated water, limited access to food and jobs, and the pandemic amplifying worries, let’s make memories for the Rohingya to be fond of!
800,000+ refugees live in Cox’s Bazar, and Islamic Relief has been delivering resources since 2008!
$1,000 can help build innovative water and sanitation facilities
$250 can distribute life-saving medical aid to those suffering from disease
$50 can provide vital food packages to families suffering from starvation
A dollar can bring a smile to someone’s face this Ramadan.
Spread the love Further, so they won't have to search further!
Nur Alam: Corona in Cox's Bazar
Mr. Alam and his family now have a mask stall for the pandemic!
Nur Alam and his 9-year-old son both tested positive for the virus. Thankfully, everyone remained healthy.
Mr. Alam describes his experience upon first hearing of the disease and his 28-day quarantine: "I trust the doctors here. So, when WHO told me that I had tested positive for COVID-19 and needed to go to an isolation and treatment center, and my family to a quarantine facility for 14 days, I accepted. But I was worried, of course" (Source: World Health Organization)
Nur Alam was the first patient to be tested positive for COVID-19 in Cox's Bazar camp
Islamic Relief: "One Year Later"
Anwar Khan (President of IRUSA) and Imam Khalid Latif (Executive Director and Champlain for Islamic Center at NYU) both visit the camps a year later to meet refugees.
"When I wake up every morning I start crying. Then I wipe my tears away and I get ready to go to school," - Omar, 11 years old, BBC News
Did you know that the United Nations labeled the Rohingya as "the most persecuted minorities in the world"?
As Muslims, we have the responsibility of taking care of orphans and caring for our neighbors. Young Omar has been struggling without his family since he left home in Myanmar back in 2017. 60% of refugees are children.
With their villages in Rakhine burned to the ground and beig turned away by some refugee designated areas around the world, the Rohingya have traveled Miles back and forth from nation to nation. Let's give them a place to call home by providing food, shelter, and education to earn a living.
According to a study done by Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE) on 725 Rohingya children, 29% had reported to be in informal school. But since the start of the pandemic, only 1% have access to remote learning.
Omar is an example of determination. He is an inspiration, and there are so many more Omar's.
Islamic Relief’s Dedication to Serving Rohingya
Refugees are in search for a home, and traveling Miles to find one is disheartening when almost every door is closed to you. Islamic Relief has been working in Cox's Bazar since 2008, delivering aid to 390,000+ people and implementing 5 projects.
"Our work in ranges from dozens of programs that address healthcare to shelter to education to psychological care to temporary shelter, especially within the Cox’s Bazaar refugee camp. We partner with UNHCR for several programs."
This effort helps children like Omar, the 50,000 pregnant women, and hundreds of thousands of children who have nowhere to call home. Job opportunities, education, an ear to listen.
The effort doesn't stop there.
