FAQ's

Having trouble registering? Contact Peter at 917-748-4662 or peter@hudsonyouth.org for help with the website or for any additional information.

Where? Oakdale Lake, 132 North 6th Street, Hudson NY.

When? A day that only comes only once every four years, Leap Day: Saturday, February 29th, 2020

What time? Registration for new plungers and mandatory check-in for pre-registered plungers from 10:30 to 11:30am. The event itself kicks off in high style at high Noon with a Costume Contest on the beachhouse steps. Plunging commences immmediately afterwards in small group waves. Spectators are strongly encouraged to arrive early - the pre-show is half the fun!  Once we get started it all happens fast, and it's over in less than an hour, so be on time!

Where do I park?  Limited parking is available at Oakdale, plentiful parking is located nearby at the Central Fire Station at 77 N. 7th St. Shuttle service runs continously.

When will my team Plunge? You'll be assigned a iine-up number when you check in, but the line up order is largely determined by the order in Teams sign up - early birds go in first!

Can I register and/or donate the day of the Plunge?  Sure, but the earlier you register the more money you'll raise, and plungers who register before the end of January get the Early Bird Discount!  Procrastinators can always register the morning of the event at the Oakdale Beach House. Donations by cash, check or credit card are gratefully accepted at the event (make checks payable to Friends of Hudson Youth) and on-line donations will continue throughout the event and for a few days afterwards.

Can children register and plunge? Absolutely, and we waive registration fees for anyone under 18!  A legal guardian must register and sign a waiver for anyone under 18, and accompany them at the event.

If I'm plunging, what should I wear? Anything you'd like, but outrageous outfits are strongly encouraged. The event starts with a Costume Contest with trophies at noon on the Beachhouse steps. Bring something warm to wear over your costume before your plunge. We recommend you plunge with shoes or something on your feet, and everyone should bring a towel and dry clothes - changing rooms are available post-plunge.

Can plungers leave a change of clothes at the Beachhouse? You can leave clothes and towel in a bag tagged with your name and phone number in the Beach House while you plunge. We cannot be responsible for any valuables.

Are there prizes? Of course! There'll be trophies for both Teams and Individuals in two categories:  Highest Fundraising and Best Costume. We will shower praise and the coveted plunger awards on trophy winners as they step forward to plunge,

Will there be food or beverages at the event? Hot coffee and cocoa will be available on the beach (free for registered plungers) and as well as more serious sustenance, including Morabito's prize winning chili!

Can I donate by check?  Yes! Make checks payable to Friends of Hudson Youth and mail to PO Box 52, Hudson, NY 12534. Indicate the Team or Individual you'd like to sponsor so they get credit.
