We are the Beta Tau Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order at Mississippi State University, home of fine southern gentlemen since 1927. Every year we normally raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, however this past spring we wanted to do something that had an immediate impact on an individual’s life. So, through the Independence Fund, our members successfully raised over $20,000 to donate a Track Chair to a wounded veteran. The Track Chair allows the user to be able to enjoy activities such as fishing, hunting, and even going onto the beach with both their families and friends. It took all Spring to raise the funds and, in the Fall of 2019, we were finally able to see our hard work pay off. On October 19, 2019 we presented Sgt. Matt Zajac with his brand-new Track Chair. The experience was surreal for most members, being able to see the joy that all our hard work had brought. Later that day Sgt. Zajac was honored on the field at Davis Wade Stadium for his service. Having experienced such a breathtaking moment, our Chapter has made it our mission to raise money for a Track Chair for a wounded Veteran every year. For the men and women that give up so much for our country, it is the least we can do to give back to them and show our gratitude.
