I WENT OVER THE EDGE!
Working at Big Brothers Big Sisters and having 4 years to think about it, I was brave and finally rappelled! It was terrifying, but I know there are things in life a lot scarier and bigger than descending an 18-story building. Whle fellow rappelers had adrenaline rushes and huge smiles as they spread their arms out leaning towards 2nd Street showing they were ready, I had none of that. Instead I was physically shaking all over, thought I'd faint, and a couple times almost changed my mind. Am I glad I did it - absolutely! Will I do it again - probably not.
The photo of me with the butterfly wings now proudly hangs in my office. I did this to raise $1,750 to support a Big and a Little for one year. A match support specialist is there with them right from the beginning with the application process, to making the match, offering guidance for the mentor, and wrap-around services for the families.
