If you're here, you probably know the facts — but here's a quick refresher:

• Our Kids has evaluated over 31,000 children in response to concerns about child sexual abuse. 
• That's a life-changing effort for the 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 7 boys who will be sexually abused by age 18. 
• Still, the average age of disclosure is 52 years old. 

That last fact is one I just learned from a survivor, Evane Stoner, who was treated at Our Kids as a child and spoke to us this year about how we not only need to protect kids — we need to believe that they are more than the worst thing that's happened to them.

"Children should be believed [but also] supported in their ability to overcome," said Evane. "As humans, we forget sometimes that we are meant to overcome really tough stuff. You have to show up and be honest. But if you do that, it starts a really great journey of being able to heal."
