Nemours Lobby Transformation

Meet Norah

Norah is 4 years old and sees a number of specialists at Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville. Our Associates are well acquainted with the vivacious young girl, who is often referred to as a “rock star” at Nemours.

Even with the best multiple-appointment scheduling, Norah and her mom, Megan, are at Nemours 30 times or more a year. “We love Nemours and are glad to be part of it,” says Megan. “But it would be nice if there were more places to sit, with different table heights so children with wheelchairs of all sizes could roll up to them easily. I often don’t think of using the café because it’s tucked away and difficult to get to. It’s the same with the library. There just seems to be a lot of space that could be better utilized. Also, an easier way to walk or sit outside would be fantastic.”

In 1991, Nemours in Northeast Florida opened its lobby doors and created a new way of caring for children. Today, we are still on the leading edge of providing innovative, family-centered care; however, our lobby – quite literally the front door for families entering our care – has remained largely unchanged in those 27 years. With Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville seeing about 500 patients a day, often with whole families in attendance, it means that more than 1,500 people a day come through a lobby that was not designed for the comfort and caring of that volume.

Staying true to a family-centered care approach, plans are underway to construct a lobby that will include:

  • New main and parking garage entrances
  • New welcome and information areas
  • New façade and seating areas
  • New 150-seat café, with indoor and terrace dining
  • Renovated pharmacy and retail space
  • New elevator area and entrance

Your gift to the lobby transformation will help create a lasting legacy, enabling our facility to provide the highest level of patient care and comfort into the future. Naming opportunities are available.
