Friends, I’M ABOUT TO GO OVER THE EDGE… to support homeless youth! :) I’ve taken up the dare to repel from the side of a 7-story building in downtown South Bend to raise money for Youth Service Bureau of St. Joseph County on September 6th! (Eeek!) But, it’ll be for a good purpose. Young people in crisis live their life “on the edge” every single day and I want to do my part to help them.
One big reason I support Youth Service Bureau of St. Joseph County is because of their Young Parents for Self Sufficiency Program. They offer a transitional living arrangement for 140 really great, capable young people who find themselves alone without a place to live while pregnant each year. This way, the parents have a place to bring the baby home that is furnished and a whole team of people cheering them on and providing extra care and guidance in those tough first months of having a newborn. The program is effective in preventing child welfare system admission among 99% of all parents and kids served!

YSB is an incredible organization based in South Bend that supports thousands of homeless teens in crisis each year. The staff members in the Street Outreach program go into the streets and public places to find youth who may need a place to stay or a friendly chat with an adult who can help them. Many of the youth helped through YSB shelter, drop-in center, or transitional living programs are fleeing homes where they were abused by their parents, lived among violence, or were unwelcome due to sexual orientation or views on religion.
