The Challenge:

For the month of June, I will be taking the Palestine 30 Day challenge where I'll be walking 10,000 steps (4.7 miles) daily to remember, raise awareness and funds for our Palestinian Sisters and Brothers. We'll be recording ourselves, tracking our steps & posting on our social media platforms using #IRpalestine #IRstepchallenge #IRPalestinestepchallenge tagging @islamicreliefusa

Why 10,000 steps?

* 10,000 steps x 30 days = 141 square miles, the size of Gaza *

Summary:

As Palestinians from Jerusalem to Gaza are rebuilding and starting to recover from the violence that escalated toward the end of Ramadan, we must step up and continue to send aid to help them along the way.

By participating in the step challenge, you will. Here are just some of the efforts your steps help support:

  • Providing medical supplies to Jerusalem's Makassed hospital and to medical facilities in Gaza to help treat patients.
  • Sending food aid to families who, otherwise, may not know where their next meal will come from.
  • Implementing clean water systems.
  • Supporting orphans and their families.
  • On and on and on.

Feel their pain, and please act! We are calling on you to help us increase our aid for Palestinians in need.

Violence, the coronavirus pandemic, coupled with decades of political instability have stifled economic development across Palestine and made difficult situations even worse. Most Palestinians, living inside the territories and living as refugees in neighboring regions, depend on international aid for survival. According to the World Food Program, 1.6 million people in Palestine are food insecure, including nearly half of Gaza’s population. Food expenses easily consume a majority of an impoverished family’s budget. Work options are extremely limited: Unemployment is close to 23% across Palestine, with nearly half the population in Gaza being unemployed.

In addition, continued violence throughout Palestine severely affects the most vulnerable section of the population: children, many of whom suffer from psychological trauma.

With all this considered, one thing remains clear: The people of Palestine are resilient and, with the support of donors like you, families in need there can access opportunities to break the chains of poverty and move toward success.

Islamic Relief’s 2021 Emergency Response

With hundreds of Palestinians wounded in Jerusalem, your donations can help save lives. Islamic Relief is providing medical supplies to support Makassed hospital so that it has the resources it needs to treat people in dire need for medical aid, including those who were harmed during the May 2021 escalation in violence.

In Gaza, Islamic Relief is providing its partner hospitals, clinics, and facilities with essential medicines and medical supplies.  The response will be a combination of immediate needs provision and longer-term care for those maimed and wounded. Partners will locally procure medicines and medical supplies that will fulfill some of the needs.

Islamic Relief works with partners who have been working on the ground in Palestine for over half a century which makes it easy to respond rapidly to emergency humanitarian situations.

Islamic Relief's Dedication to Palestine

Islamic Relief started working in Palestine in 1994 and soon after, Islamic Relief Palestine opened its office in 1998 so long-term development projects could be implemented and overseen by people in the field.

For decades, our legacy in the country has grown to help hundreds of thousands of people every year with programs that provide livelihood support for farmers, help vulnerable children, and more. With your continued support, IRUSA can provide more relief for people in need.

Here’s just a sampling of recent efforts for Palestinian families in need

  • Supporting vocational training programs
  • Delivering urgent food aid to families in need
  • Working to install clean water systems

“IRUSA strongly condemns the ongoing violence, aggression, and intimidation tactics used against thousands of Palestinian civilians, especially during the holy month of Ramadan,” says IRUSA CEO Sharif Aly.

“In the midst of a global pandemic, any kind of aggression shocks the conscience and defies international humanitarian standards by further exposing Palestinians, already struggling with limited access to healthcare, to the deadly COVID-19 virus. We call for an immediate end to all violence and for respect of the freedom of worship guaranteed to all people under international law. We stand ready to provide humanitarian Aid to Palestinians affected by this particularly cruel use of force.”
