I’m thrilled to be participating in this year’s Pet Palooza to raise much-needed funds for the Humane Society of Charlotte and the pets they care for. Every donation helps provide shelter, medical care, and love to animals in need, as well as support for pets and their families throughout our community. This cause is especially close to my heart because I adopted my dog, Tree, from the Humane Society of Charlotte in December 2024. Tree spent almost his entire life in a shelter—he arrived at the county shelter as a puppy and was transferred to HSC, where he was adopted and returned twice. Hoping for a fresh start, he was sent to the Asheville Humane Society, but after Hurricane Helene devastated the area, he was transferred back to Charlotte.

When I met Tree, he was struggling. As a high-energy husky, the shelter environment was tough for him. He was on multiple medications for anxiety and behavioral issues, and only behavior specialists could handle him due to his jumpiness and mouthiness. Wanting to give him a break, I brought him home to foster—and that’s when everything changed. Tree bonded instantly with my Samoyed, Nanuk, and they became inseparable. My partner, Bill, and I fell in love with him and knew we couldn’t let him go. We made him part of our family, and now, with plenty of exercise and love, Tree no longer needs medication and is thriving in his forever home.

Every pet deserves a second chance like Tree, and that’s why I’m passionate about supporting the Humane Society of Charlotte. Your donation—no matter the amount—helps give more animals the opportunity for a happy ending.
