Team MJ - PFF 2 - Mile Boston Walk
I am proud to be fundraising for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) as we walk together toward a cure for pulmonary fibrosis (PF) at the Team MJ - PFF 2-mile Boston Walk.
Team MJ - Mary Jane Scott RNBSN - Pulmonary Fibrosis survivor- diagnosed in April 2018 with Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF). My disease is advancing and is in both lungs now as of August 2025. The survival rate could be 5-7 years, but if the cause is unknown, it may be less.
I am doing this PF Walk for the SECOND TIME on September 27th, 2025, at 9:30 am at Castle Island, South Boston, MA. Last year, I raised over +$5,000. RAIN DATE: Sunday, September 28th, 2025 at 9:30 am. Please arrive by 9:30 am and meet at the Children's playground near the bathroom facilities. The Walk will start promptly at 10:00 am. Dress appropriately for a 2-mile walk. Also, please bring your own water to stay hydrated. Snacks and refreshments supplied.
3 FAMILY members had or have PF. I am doing my PF Walk in honor of my deceased mother, Anita, who had PF. My older sister, Janet, and I both have PF.
I chose the location for my PF walk to be South Boston, Castle Island. All FOUR of my grandparents used to live in South Boston. Anita, my mother, who had PF, fell in love with my dad, Ed, at a party in Southie where they both grew up. We used to go to St. Patrick's Day yearly with my grandparents, parents, and many cousins.
I am a recently retired Registered Nurse with 45 years of Nursing Service. Over 28 years of experience in a hospital setting, many school settings, and ended teaching Nursing at MGHIHP School of Nursing as ABSN Program Manager and Academic Support Counselor for 8 years. For 45 years, I owned my own MJS Tutoring business, coaching and mentoring thousands of nurses to pass Nursing School and their Nursing NCLEX Licensure exam with a 100% pass rate.
I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in April 2018. There is NO CURE for PF, and it causes permanent scarring of the alveoli of the lungs. I tried the 2 very expensive FDA-approved meds and had to stop both of them due to major side effects. Each med costs over $15,000 EACH. I am doing my PF Walk to raise awareness and more money for NEW and continuing research to find a cure for PF. Lung Transplant is a very involved option, but does not come without major risks and not much of a guarantee of adding many years to your life.
Let's walk together and find a cure for PF! PF is a RARE DISEASE.

The PFF Walk supports the Foundation’s efforts to accelerate research, advance improved care for those living with the disease, and provide unequaled support and education resources for patients, caregivers, family members, and healthcare providers. Your gift will power progress, and I appreciate your generosity in supporting a cause that is important to me! For more information on how your gift will make a difference in the lives of PF patients and their families, please visit pulmonaryfibrosis.org.
I am grateful for your support as we walk together toward a cure.
