On Saturday September 27th, I will be proudly walking alongside my friends, family and colleagues from Inova Pulmonology to raise funds in support of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) as we walk together toward a cure for pulmonary fibrosis (PF) at the PFF Walk 2025. I walk in memory of my grandfather, Francis 'Sonny' Trenum, who passed away from pulmonary fibrosis in 2013 after living with the disease for many years—before many of the antifibrotic therapies available today had been developed. These treatments exist thanks to the tireless work of scientists and advocates supported by organizations like the PFF. With many more promising therapies in the pipeline, continuing to support this work is more important than ever.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. The PFF Walk supports the Foundation’s efforts to accelerate research, advance improved care for those living with the disease, and provide unequaled support and education resources for patients, caregivers, family members, and healthcare providers.
