We're calling our team "Steve's Delta Flyers" in honor of one of Steve's appearances on Star Trek, from his acting days. If you find Star Trek: Voyager, Season 7, Episode 3, "Drive", you'll see a cute little story of how the USS Voyager is traveling through part of the Delta Quadrant where several races have recently ended hostilities and are celebrating the armistice by holding a kind of interstellar Indy 500. Voyager hosts some diplomatic and pre-race festivities as a neutral party, and Tom Paris enters his spiffy "Delta Flyer" souped-up shuttlecraft in the race itself.
Steve shows up in a few scenes as the #2 alien from the people who wear shiny blue suits. He doesn't have any lines, though he DOES get to co-pilot his people's racer, and trade a Very Significant Glance with his lead pilot as the race starts.
Our parents were Trekkies all the way back to the broadcast run of the original show with Kirk, Spock, et al. We all grew up on it. Seems fitting to commemorate Steve's life with a callback to his work and our little family tradition of being space nerds. When I'm not taking his passing too hard, I joke that he isn't really gone ... he just went back to the Delta Quadrant to race some more. He'll be back. Meanwhile, there's folks here on Earth who are living with Pulmonary Fibrosis right this minute, and I don't want to wait for the 24th Century to give them a better shot at life.
