On August 2nd, 2025, Team Bishop will once again be participating at the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation’s Walk (Liberty State Park, Jersey City). As many of you are aware, I was diagnosed with PF in February 2021. This disease is often misdiagnosed, has NO cure, and is ALWAYS terminal. The “average” survival rate is 3-5 years after diagnosis. This lung disorder is characterized by progressive scarring and deterioration of the lungs which robs its victims of their ability to breathe. Approximately 250,000 Americans suffer from PF, and 40,000 lives are taken each year from this disease. I was placed on a lung transplant list in April 2024 and on October 5, 2024, I received a lifesaving double lung transplant. Without this gift of life, I would not be here. I am blessed and grateful to my donor and his family.
I will not give up the fight to find a cure! We are getting close! A new drug (Nerandomilast) which should be approved by the FDA shortly is the first drug in ten years to meet its primary endpoints in both phase III clinical trials. This drug significantly reduces the decline in lung function which increases the years a person can live with the disease.
