What is Phelan-McDermid syndrome?
Phelan-McDermid syndrome (pronounced FEY-luhn mick-DUR-mid) is a rare genetic disorder that can compromise many critical functions in a person's body — from learning and communicating to eating and sleeping.
Children with this complex medical condition are born with a genetic difference on their 22nd chromosome that affects brain development and functioning. As a result, they experience intellectual and physical disabilities that vary from child to child. Some people with Phelan-McDermid syndrome lose essential skills, and most require long-term care and medical attention. Currently, there are no treatments or cures.

What is the $22 for 22q13 in 22 days campaign?
The $22 for 22q13 in 22 days campaign is one of the easiest campaigns to participate in and has become Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation's signature fundraiser. Many of our families use it to honor their child's birthday, holidays, or special occasions/events. Essentially families ask their family and friends to donate a minimum of $22 (or more) to benefit PMSF during a 22 day period.
Getting Started:
Start your own $22 for 22q13 campaign by simply clicking the "Become a Fundraiser" button above. Fill out the required fields, personalize your page as much or as little as you'd like, and you are on your way. The only thing left to do is share the link to your page with your family and friends by using the convenient social media and email buttons located beneath the progress bar. It is because of the generosity of our families and their networks that the Foundation is able to fund research, support our families, raise much needed awareness among the medical community and provide hope to the 3,200 and counting diagnosed.
