Ways to Get Involved

VBCF’s Pink 13.1 is a 13.1 mile walk, bike or run for women and men who are ready to take action against breast cancer and make a difference for Virginians. Participants raise a minimum of $300 and cover 13.1 miles on the Virginia Creeper Trail in one day, educating hundreds of people about breast health and raising funds to support breast health education and improved public policy with every step. It takes support from our entire community to tackle ending breast cancer in Southwest Virginia. For the Pink 13.1, we are calling on all businesses to rally around and support our passionate walkers who are saving lives! See below for ways you can support our work and walkers!

CHEER

13.1 miles is a long distance! Our participants need help staying motivated during the route. If you are a business, come out and cheer them on along their path! We encourage you to make signs, bring pink decorations, use music, and support them so they can finish strong! The public is encouraged to cheer along the Creeper Trail as well. If you plan on setting up a cheering station, let us know by contacting Catherine so she can assist with logistics.

VOLUNTEER

We need dozens of helpers to make the event a success! If you want to be involved with the Pink 13.1 as a rest stop volunteer, course marshall, set-up crew or more, click here to sign up for a spot. We have space for groups who want to volunteer together, just contact Catherine to coordinate!

DONATE

Registration is open until October 20th, and fundraising continues up until the event. Support a friend’s fundraising efforts by donating. Or register and fundraise yourself! Register here.

About VBCF

VBCF was founded because no other organization existed in Virginia that was devoted solely to representing the needs of individuals and their families affected by breast cancer. In February 1991, five women met in a support group. Stunned by the lack of research and progress in breast cancer treatment, they planned a Mother’s Day Rally at the State Capitol to bring attention to this devastating disease.  The activist seeds of VBCF were sown that day.

VBCF is a statewide, state-based 501c3 that is not part of a national organization nor are we a traditional grantmaking foundation. With the help of volunteers, VBCF provides Virginians with accurate, up-to-date information on breast cancer early detection, diagnosis, treatment, research, legislation, survivorship, caregiving, and end-of-life care. VBCF’s small staff is headquartered in Richmond and has just established an office in Roanoke to better serve Southwest Virginia.

Volunteer Shifts Coming Soon

Interested in cheering on our participants?

Contact Catherine for instructions on setting up a cheering station along the route to support our runners/walkers/bikers!

We need volunteers for two main tasks:

  1. Helping with pre-event planning, organization, and marketing in the months leading up to the Pink 13.1.

  2. Working with organizers and other volunteers on event day to provide the best experience to our participants.
