Backstory & Info

Don & I particpated in the Polar Bear Dip on 2/29/20 with our friends Jason & Kimi. We wanted to "do something crazy for Leap Year” and Kimi tossed out the idea of the Dip. Took some cajoling but we all got on board. Each of us had a lot of anxiety about doing it and said we'd be "one and done". HA!  We jumped in and when we climbed up into the warming room we high-fived each other and said in amazment, "that wasn't so bad!!!!!! Let's do it again next year!!!". 

Fast forward to 2023 and the Dip is BACK IN PERSON! What an exciting opportunity to jump again and add a couple of new goals….recruit more people and roll up our sleeves to really raise some money for River Hospital.

In 2020 we were the "Wellesley Island Average Joe’s" (from the movie "Dodgeball"). This year we're "Sofa King Cold" (say that out loud really fast) and have two new teammates (yay Litzie & Jllian!). The River holds a special place in all of our hearts. Four of us spent summers growing up together in Thousand Island Park and have been friends for 35+ years while two married us River Rats -- and love the area so much that they were willing to move to Wellesley Island year round! 

River Hospital is important to the St. Lawrence River community and we all have relied on the hospital for friends and family or even for ourselves. River Hospital is the life line for many people here year-round. I hope you will help us reach our $20K goal. Every little bit helps!

Your investment in excellent local healthcare on the River will help the hospital grow its operation, modernize the facility, and support the community & patients. Fundraisers like the Polar Bear Dip help ensure the hospital can continue to deliver sustainable healthcare close to home for generations to come. This year’s funding will support resources for the Emergency Department.

The Polar Bear Dip has been raising money for River Hospital in Alexandria Bay, NY for over 30 years.
