As both a special education teacher in Chicago Public Schools and the proud mother of a child who has flourished through Special Olympics Chicago's programs, I plunge because I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of this partnership from both sides of the classroom door.
In my school, I've seen students who once struggled to participate in physical activities beam with pride as they master new skills through Special Olympics programming. The inclusive environment and specialized coaching don't just build athletic ability – they foster confidence, social connections, and a sense of belonging that carries over into every aspect of school life.
When I run (let’s be real - slightly jog) into those frigid waters of Lake Michigan, I think of every student and every family whose lives have been touched by Special Olympics Chicago. Each dollar raised helps ensure that more children like my students and my child can access these life-changing programs.
