As a Chicago Public School, we are proud to serve as a transition center dedicated to supporting students aged 16-22 with disabilities, guiding them as they develop the skills and confidence needed for life beyond school. Our students join us through placement by the Office of Students with Disabilities, and our specialized programs are tailored to meet their individual needs and aspirations.
At Southside, we offer a well-rounded educational experience, focusing on four key areas: Independent Functioning, Social Learning, Vocational Skills, and Applied Academics. These areas provide our students with practical skills for everyday life, help them navigate social interactions, prepare them for various career paths, and apply academic learning to real-world situations. Our faculty and staff are passionate about each student’s success, working closely with families to create supportive learning environments and meaningful growth opportunities.
Special Olympics supports our school in many ways both while our students are attending and once they graduate. Please help us support an organization that offers so much to our community.

On Sunday, March 2, 2025 our team will participate in Polar Plunge® Chicago for Special Olympics Illinois presented by Special Children's Charities, one of the city's most popular winter fundraising events! We are excited to take on the challenge and jump into Lake Michigan's chilly waters to support thousands of individuals with intellectual disabilities. With your support, people with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to discover new strengths, abilities, and accomplishments.
