Name of your favorite teacher and what made the person special to you: My favorite high school teacher was Mrs Stachowiak. She was a tough, no-nonsense teacher who really scared me, yet I flourished with her. She built my confidence and I became a strong public speaker under her mentorship. She gave me the confidence to attend college (a family first) where I continued my public speaking.
What were some of your most enjoyable times in school: High School marching band: I was a majorette in the Thanksgiving Macy's Day parade. College: Interviewing George Bush Sr.
Looking back over the years, what advice would you give to your high school self or college self: Those years are a grain of sand in the big picture--they're a mere stepping stone. Reading about it and doing it are two very different things. There is no study guide or cliff notes for life. Learn to think on your feet, to read people and situations, and to work under pressure. In the real world, it is THOSE things that will separate you from the pack.
Why are you supporting Project GRAD Akron’s scholarship fund: High school years are tough enough--self esteem and confidence are often lacking--even with those coming from supportive homes. Our schools are full of "diamonds in the rough". They just need support and a little polishing.
