On April 17th 2017 I was diagnosed with stage 1 carcinoma Breast cancer. I was very fortunate it was caught early and that is because of all the new equipment and medical knowledge they have now. I had a lumpectomy and intra-operational radiation done during surgery. This radiation is something fairly new and luckily Good Shepard Hospital was one of the few hospitals who offered this. Every cent counts towards any cancer foundation or fundraiser to help families in need to keep improving care for people with cancer. I was one of the lucky ones, I did not have to have chemo and only have to take a pill each day which I will take for 5 years to rid me of estrogen which is was part of the cause of my cancer. On January 3rd 2018 received news my Mother had Lung cancer, it devastated me but I had to stay positive and after Chemo and Radiation the tumor had shrunk and the PET scan showed no signs of cancer, my mother was in remission.  On January 31st. 2019 she was diagnoses with cancer on her adrenal gland and pelvic bone, the cancer had spread. Again we are thinking positive because there are so many things that are being done for cancer these days due to people helping raise money for this cause. I have so many special people in my life that I can tell you stories about who have passed from cancer or are now in remission; to them I say you are not forgotten!!

With that said each one of us has been affected by cancer in one way or another.  Whether it is you who has battled or is battling cancer or that of a dear family member or close friend or even a cherished pet.  We may not be able to stop the disease at this point but we can try to help those with this awful disease.  This is why I am part of the 6th Annual Purple Plunge.  This great charity is raising money to help those affected by cancer to provide them some financial support while fighting this battle, one less thing to worry about.
