We are Raising Money for P.S. 153

Every $50 we raise will enable one student at PS 153 to receive JA programming, and every $1000 we raise will enable one class at PS 153 to receive JA programming. From personal finance to entrepreneurship, JA programs give kids the chance to develop the skills they need to become confident, savvy leaders in the real world. Funds raised in excess of school needs will support JA’s programming in neighboring low and moderate income schools in NYC and Long Island.

PS 153 is an elementary school in Queens serving more than 1200 students. PS 153 is unique for its emphasis on the arts and videoconferencing that brings faraway museums to the school library.

Test scores at PS 153 have increased steadily over the last few years, but that is only a small measure of the quality of education the students receive. The school attempts to build good citizens and competent readers. Children sing to residents of nursing homes and hold bake sales to raise money for children with AIDS.

The school has five classes for children with special needs only, and one "inclusion" class with two-thirds of the pupils from general education and one-third with special needs. The school also has an after school program for homework help and recreation.
