Thank you for visiting my 2020 Promise Walk for Preeclampsia fundraising page.
I am grateful for your donations and for your help in spreading the word about preeclampsia. My goal is to help our community raise funds and awareness and save the lives of moms and babies!
Please make a donation to support our efforts to fund education and research into this life-threatening disorder of pregnancy.
My Story
I didn't have any risk factors for Preeclampsia when I was pregnant with my first. At my 30 week check up I was told my BP was 205/110 and I was showing severe preeclampsia symptoms as I rushed to the hospital to be ambulanced downtown to UH. Through labs it was determined that I also had HeLLP Syndrome and would not be able to wait to deliver my daughter as my body was shutting down and she was beginning to show signs of stress. Luckily, I was able to deliver her via emergency c section before my platelets dropped to a dangerous level and she was immediately rushed to the NICU at 2 lbs. 14 oz. I was unable to see her for over 24 hours while I was on magnesium and being closely monitored.
Isabel was in the NICU for 6 weeks and is now a happy, healthy 2 year old.
Much is still unknown about the causes of preeclampsia, eclampsia, and HELLP which is why research by the Preeclampsia Foundation is so important. Every day mothers and babies die from this disease and there is not enough prenatal support for mothers to get comprehensive care due to a lack of funding and support for maternal fetal health. Being a survivor of this disease means I will always be an advocate. See you on June 13th!
