Frequently Asked Questions about Prancing with the Stars - Physical Distancing Edition

How do I participate?

This is a dance video competition. Simply record yourself, yourself with a partner, yourself with a group of friends or family members, or yourself with your pet, dancing! Submit your video to us for review. We will then review it and upload it to your voting/fundraising page. Complete the setup of your page (tell your story) and begin collecting votes for your video.

What is the deadline to submit a dance video?

All videos must be received no later than 11:59pm on Friday October 30, 2020. The earlier you submit your dance video, the more time you will have to collect votes.

Why do I submit my video to you first?

This is a family friendly competition and we want to be sure that the content is suitable for all ages. Please, no profanity in the music you choose and no inappropriate words or images on anything visible in your video.

What kind of music can I use in my video?

Your dance can be done to any kind of music. The music is your choice. We would ask that you please keep in mind that this is a family friendly event and so we would ask that you please ensure that your music choice be free from profanity.

How many people can be in my video?

We have four categories: Individuals – 1 person, Pairs - 2 people;  Groups – up to 10 dancers – please ensure to keep a physical distance between your group members or ensure they are members of your ‘social bubble’ in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. In the “Animal” category, this can be your animal dancing on their own or with a human partner.

Do I need to be a professional dancer to participate?

Not at all! If you love to dance, then this competition is for you! Professional or beginner – this is meant to be fun for all!

How do I collect votes for my video?

Once you have submitted your video and completed your profile page, you can send out emails to your network in order to secure votes. Votes cost $1 each and there is no limit to the number of times someone can vote for your video. Twenty votes = $20, 50 votes = $50 and so on. The top three videos in each category will move on to the livestream finale. To encourage your friends to vote for your video, start yourself off by voting for your own video.

I'm not 18 years old.  Can I still participate?

Yes! This is a family friendly event. Your parent or guardian must agree to the waiver for you.

How do I set up my personal page?

Once your video has been reviewed and approved, it will be uploaded to your voting/fundraising page and you will receive an email notification. Follow the link in the email to complete the set up of your voting page, then send the link to your page out to your friends, family and colleagues so they can vote for your video. There are email and social templates available to make sharing your page quick and easy.

How much does it cost to participate?

There is no fee to submit your dance video. This is a fundraising initiative in support of the animals that are helped by the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. The funds raised from the votes received for your video will have a huge impact on our animals. Be the first to purchase votes on your page - it shows your committment will inspire others to support you also!

Can I enter more than one video?

Yes. Each video entry must be entered separately. A new fundraising page must be set up for each video entered.

How are votes counted?
Donations made in support of the dance videos are valued at one vote for every $1.00 donated.

How does my dance video get to the live-stream finale?
Collect votes by asking your friends, family and co-workers to purchase vote for your video. All votes will be tallied up to the close of voting at 11:59pm on Friday October 30th. Winning videos will be chosen based solely on the number of votes received. The top 3 videos with the most votes in each of the four categories will move on to the live-stream finale on November 5, 2020. The finalists will be notified by email if they have made it to the finale by October 31st.

Do I have to live in Oakville or Milton to participate?
Participants and voters are not limited to the Towns of Oakville and Milton: everyone is welcome to participate.

If I make it to the finale, what happens next?
If your dance video is one of the finalists selected for the livestream broadcast, you will be notified. Register to receive the link for the live-stream broadcast and notify your network to also register. There is no charge to join the live-stream broadcast but you must register to receive the link. Everyone on the broadcast will be able to vote one time in each of the four categories so the more people you can get to join the broadcast, the better your chances will be to prance away with the top prize in your category.

How can I increase my chances of winning my category?

Encourage your network to vote for your video in advance of the live broadcast. In the event of a tie in a specific category, we will include the number of votes collected prior to the Broadcast Finale to determine a final category winner.


Can my video be disqualified from the contest?
The Oakville & Milton Humane Society reserves the right to disqualify an entry based on profanity in the music used for the dance video, inappropriate images on clothing or anything else that is visible in the video, or for any content that may cause harm to the animal or human in the video.

What will the Oakville & Milton Humane Society do with my dance video once it has been uploaded?
By agreeing to the waiver, you also acknowledge and give permission to the Oakville & Milton Humane Society to use your name, video and potential still images from your video entered in the livestream finale broadcast on November 5th, 2020. We also reserve the right to use these items in publications and materials, including social media and print materials.

Are there prizes for the winners?

Yes! The winners in each category will receive a trophy. As well, the winner of the Individual category will receive two tickets to the OMHS Prancing with the Stars event in 2021; the winners of the Pairs category will also receive two tickets to this event as will the pet parent of the winner of the Animal Category. The winners of the Group category will receive one ticket for each member of the group – up to a maximum of 10 tickets.

Will donors receive tax receipts for their votes?
Tax receipts will be emailed to the donors (voters) immediately upon completion of their purchase of votes.
