I’m thrilled to be running my first marathon here in NYC in partnership with Queens Centers for Progress. QCP provides vital resources and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities here in Queens. Working with more than 1500 individuals of all ages, QCP offers everything from educational support to job training to housing — always with the goal of supporting people’s independence, community involvement, and quality of life. QCP cares deeply about the people they work with, and I’ve gotten to see that firsthand. When my older sister Emilie started working at Trader Joe’s in 2007, QCP provided her with a job coach to help her adjust to the job and excel in her new work environment. More than 15 years later, with continued support and encouragement from the wonderful folks at QCP, Emilie is still thriving at Trader Joe’s. I’m incredibly proud of Emilie and all she’s accomplished, and I’m grateful to know that QCP is supporting so many of our neighbors here in Queens.
