I'm running for Prudence!
Prudence came to Daraja Academy from Kakamega County in a village situated near the small marketplace of Sabalia where she lives with her mom and brother. When asked to describe her village, Prudence said, “It’s very noisy… most people are uneducated and engage in illegal behavior and drug abuse.” Prudence has a deep admiration for her mother’s hard-working spirit and tries to follow that example. She says that her greatest challenge thus far has been “seriously reading and teaching myself all the class seven work” after not being able to afford to go to school and falling behind. Prudence loves that Daraja teaches the importance of leadership and empowers women. She hopes that the things she learns at Daraja will help her lift her family and community. After she graduates, Prudence wants to go to university to become a surgeon. She knows it’s a career for the few who work hard, but she’s ready.
