We started this fundraiser on a Monday and I typed up this big long letter from Dexter about his life and medical challenges and his wish to be a calendar model. Then the very next day, he took a turn and we had to say goodbye. We're going to leave the fundraiser up in his honor. Dexter is the reason I decided to start working in rescue and raising money for RAL in his honor just seems like the right thing to do. He came from a horrible puppy mill. I got him when I was young and stupid and had no idea what a puppy mill was, but when I pulled up to the property I knew something wasn't right. I was handed a little black and white puppy and he nuzzled into my neck and dug his little claws into my shoulder like he was begging me not to leave him there, so I didn't.

Hello there, wonderful humans! My name is Dexter Miyagi Kung-Fu Hustle, and I'm here to share my incredible journey with you. I might be just a 13-year-old pup, but let me tell you, I've got a fighting spirit that can move mountains!

You see, I had a challenging start in life. I'm a survivor of the dreaded puppy mills, where I spent my first 9 months in a place that lacked love and care. But despite the hardships, I never lost hope, and I was rescued by my mom. She says that bringing me into her life is what inspired her to work in animal welfare, and next month will be her 11-year anniversary working in rescue. I believe that every dog (cats too, I guess), no matter their circumstances, deserves a chance to experience the warmth of a loving home.

Now, as I navigate my golden years, I face some health battles. I'm epileptic, have congestive heart failure, and recently lost my sight. But let me tell you, these obstacles won't bring me down! I've learned to adapt and embrace my new reality, and my spirit remains unbreakable.

My ultimate mission is to raise funds for Richmond Animal League (RAL), the incredible animal shelter where my mom works. These amazing humans work day and night to provide hope, help, and homes to countless animals, just like me.

By participating in this calendar contest, I'm not only striving to win but also aiming to secure much-needed funds for RAL. Every dollar we raise will make a significant difference in the lives of my fellow furry friends.

But there's something else that tugs at my heart. You see, I have a lifelong dream of gracing the pages of a calendar. I've always wanted a tangible reminder of my legacy, something that will endure even after I’ve crossed the rainbow bridge. Winning this contest will fulfill my heartfelt desire to be immortalized in a calendar and leave a lasting testament to my time on this Earth.
