Event Postponed

Dear Dream Maker,

In light of recent developments and social distancing recommendations related to COVID-19, we are terribly disappointed to announce that we are postponing the River City Dragon Boat Festival.

This event exists to make dreams come true for kids, like Sophie, in Manitoba battling life-threatening illnesses. This would not be possible without the support of fold like you. We cannot thank you enough.

Please know that we fully intend to reschedule this event when it is advisable to do so, and are so looking forward to celebrating all of your hard work with you and your team.

Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact The Dream Factory office directly at (204) 989-4010 or email Karly at karly@thedreamfactory.ca

Thank you again for your support of The Dream Factory, and for believing in the power of a dream come true.

With profound appreciation,

WELCOME TO THE DREAM FACTORY RIVER CITY DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL!

The Dream Factory is proud to partner with the Manitoba Paddling Association to host one of the summer's biggest events: The River City Dragon Boat Festival beginning on Friday, June 5th, 2020. Dragon boating is one of Winnipeg's most popular summer events and we are excited for you to be part of it!

Get your team of 20 friends, family, and/or co-workers together and get ready to have fun while supporting a great cause! Whether you are a long-time dragon boater or have never paddled before - this festival is a great way to have fun and help us to make dreams come true for some very special kids.

The festival is a fundraiser for The Dream Factory, a Winnipeg based charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for Manitoba kids who are battling life- threatening illnesses. We suggest that each team raise a minimum of $2,500.00. The funds you raise will go directly to making dreams come true for kids who desperately need a break from hospitals, medical treatments and other challenges they will face on their journey. All funds raised stay in Manitoba.

All teams are guaranteed 3 races, weather permitting. The Top 8 Fundraising Teams will again be honoured in a special feature race.

Safety is a top priority. Boats, paddles and personal floatation devices will be provided. Instruction and race supervision will be provided by the Manitoba Paddling Association. Practice sessions start weekday evenings in early May.

To register by credit card, click “Sign Up Today” at the top of the page or the “Register For This Event” link to the right. If you prefer to pay registration by cheque e-mail karly@thedreamfactory.ca.

You are helping bring dreams to life. Thank you!

Meet Sophie

Untitled design (1).png

Last August, Sophie's family had their world come crashing down. Sophie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at 9 years old. Sophie's treatment schedule has been very rigorous as her cancer is malignant and aggressive. She has been receiving regular chemo treatments and underwent a major surgery on her knee in November.

Sophie, her mom Jen and step-dad Bruce are facing Sophie’s cancer together as a team. When Jen told Sophie that it was ok to complain, Sophie immediately replied “complaining never helps to fix anything, so I won’t complain.” And she hasn’t.

Sophie has family in Japan and hopes to travel there to meet them, especially her Gramma.

Sophie’s Gramma lives at the base of a mountain called Mt. Takao, which rests at the very edge of Tokyo. It is a sacred mountain that has many ancient trees and a beautiful temple at the top. From the top of the mountain you can see Mt. Fuji and visit a monkey park.

Sophie’s Gramma often walks up Mt. Takao, and it is Sophie’s dream to hike up the mountain with her Gramma.

Register a team today to help make Sophie's dream come true or you can make a donation here.

A Year of Dreams 2019

About The Dream Factory

The Dream Factory is a charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses. We’re unique because we’re based in Manitoba – and all of the funds we raise stay in this province to help local children. Everything we do is focused on helping sick kids and their families.

The Dream Factory relies solely on the generous support of people and businesses. Since 1983, when we were founded as The Rainbow Society, we’ve created cherished memories for more than 700 families in Manitoba.

Our mandate simply requires that a potential Dream Kid should be under the age of 18 and able to communicate their dream. We include all immediate family members in the dream and ensure that it's a memorable experience outside of the hospital environment.

On average, we fulfill approximately 30 dreams in a given year, though we have been making more and more dreams come true in recent years. We expect 2020 to be our busiest year yet!

The average cost of a dream is over $10,000.00 CAD, a cost that continues to increase with rising travel costs, a challenging U.S. dollar, and dreamers that keep getting more creative!

We couldn't do what we do without the incredible support of our donors and volunteers. Thank you for helping us bring even more dreams to life in 2020!
