We are so happy to be part of this campaign to raise money for a great cause that helps so many including us! James has stayed at the house in Charleston during his visits to MUSC! James was diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis in May 2021. It is an extremely rare autoimmune disease that affects 2-4 children per million. The immune system attacks blood vessels throughout the body causing muscle inflammation (myositis). This leaves James weak and easily tired from every day activities so he now has a wheelchair for his use on long outings and on hard days. His skin is extremely sensitive to the sun so he also has special UV blocking gear to wear outside.
