Rock 'n Bowl 2017 ○ All That Gutters Is Not Bowled
Pam Webb
My "Big Story"
Donors have many choices of charities to support. Why Bowl for Kids Sake and why Big Brothers Big Sisters of Beaver County? Well, for starters, Bowl for Kids' Sake (BFKS) is the single largest and therefore most important source of funding for the children's mentoring programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Beaver County. My husband Tim, our children Nicole and Justin, and I along with many of our family and friends have been bowling and raising funds to support this most worthy program for 30 years. It was in the summer of 1987 that then Program Director Lyn Praster hired me on as a part-time case manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters. My job was to interview, screen, assign and support volunteer Big Brothers, Sisters and Couples in one-to-one mentoring relationships with vulnerable children who were at risk of failing to reach their potential due to various risk factors. I loved being the agency case manager who had the privilege to introduce a dynamic, successful and caring Big Brother or Sister volunteer mentor into the life of a struggling, vulnerable child. It truly was "magic" to see a relationship blossom and develop and to witness a child begin to grasp a vision for a successful future.
When Lyn moved on four years later, the agency Board hired me as her successor and I was privileged to serve as the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Beaver County Executive Director for 20 years. Although I rarely introduced the matches from that point on, I worked together with agency Board members, staff, and community supporters to strengthen and grow the agency impact on children and in the community at large.
In addition to Tim and I serving as a Big Couple to a young boy from a single-parent home, our daughter Nicole and son Justin also served as Big Sister and Big Brother mentors when they were in high school and college.
Although I retired as a staff member in 2011, I have continued to support the agency through Bowl for Kids' Sake and through various other fundraising events. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Beaver County will always be near and dear to my heart.
I hope that you will find it in your heart to support me as a Bowler by donating whatever you can towards the research-based, cost-effective children's programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Beaver County!
