Polar Plunge 2026

Arctic Polar Plungers

Arctic Polar Plungers Team Fundraising Page

We're raising money for the 2026 Can Geo Polar Plunge

March 1, 2026, YELLOWKNIFE, NORTHWEST TERRITORIES:  This winter, I’m embracing the cold and joining the 2026 Canadian Geographic Polar Plunge to inspire the Arctic Polar Plungers from Canada's Atlantic to Pacific and Arctic oceans.

Based in Yellowknife, this will be my second Can Geo Polar Plunge into Great Slave Lake, the tenth largest lake in the world and the deepest lake in North America. With temperatures dipping below -50 degrees C here, the Polar Plunge is not for the faint of heart... It's no mean feat to jump into Great Slave Lake, which is frozen from late Novmember to early June.

I'm proud to be the Team Captain of the Arctic Polar Plungers and participate in Can Geo's fifth annual Polar Plunge.

Join my team and choose your body of water (a lake, river, or the ocean... with our without ice) and take the plunge with other like-minded and intrepid souls across Canada on Sunday, March 8th...

Your tax charitable donations will support Canadian Geographic and the Royal Canadian Geographical Scoiety's initiatives, including their education, storytelling, exploration, and programs that connect Canadians to their country—supporting students, educators, researchers, and explorers along the way.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings the Arctic Polar Plungers closer to our goal of $2,500 and helps make Can Geo's fabulous work possible. To kick things off, I've made the first donation ($103) to the Arctic Polar Plungers team.

Here's how you can help:

Donate: Contribute whatever you can. No amount is too small!

Spread the Word: Share my fundraising page with your friends, family, and social networks. Let’s spread awareness so we can raise more!

Thank you for joining me in this pan-Canadian effort.

Your support means the world to me, the Arctic Polar Plungers, and the many stakeholders who benefit from Canadian Geographic and the Royal Canadian Geographical Society's many programs.

I invite you to take the plunge with me, literally and figuratively.

Warm regards, Susan R. Eaton

March 4, 2026, YELLOWKNIFE, NORTHWEST TERRITORIES:  Yesterday morning I woke up to -41°C with a windchill of -52°C in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. I soon discovered that my car battery was dead, despite being plugged in overnight and being wrapped in a heated battery blanket.

Such are the joys of living North of 60...

Please consider supporting me as I take the #CanGeoPolarPunge to raise funds for the Royal Canadian Geographical Society's educational programming and the Canadian Geographic EXPLORE Podcast.

I’m the captain of the Arctic Polar Plungers team, and we need your support to meet (or surpass!) our fundraising goal of $2,500. The deadline for donations is Sunday, March 8th.

Thank you, in advance, for your support: Donations are tax charitable for Canadians.

Canadian Geogrpahic's fundraising goal is to raise $40,000. There are dozens of teams and intrepid souls who will participate in the fifth annual Can Geo Polar Plunge in rivers, lakes, and oceans across the country on Sunday, March 8th.

With your help we can continue to expand Canadians’ knowledge of our country’s diverse human and physical landscapes, better preparing them for an uncharted future.

Did you know that Great Slave Lake is the world's 10th largest lake and the deepest one in North America (614 metres)? Surrounded by subarctic boreal forest, it’s frozen from November to June. North of 60, ice roads form an important part of the winter transportation infrastructure across Canada's North. Ice roads connect fly-in communities and serve as supply routes for winter operations in the mining sector.

March 6, 2026, YELLOWKNIFE, NORTHWEST TERRITORIES: People have asked me what the polar plunge looks like—the simplest way is to share the CBC-TV news spot (see URL below and photos attached) from our 2024 polar plunge. It was -37 degrees C when our intrepid team from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, plunged into Great Slave Lake two years ago…
