Four thousand coins, a challenge we must meet,
To double joy and make a wondrous stand,
Let’s pedal fast, with hearts that truly beat,
To help these youths throughout our promised land.
So lend your heart, and let your bounty pour,
To build young lives forevermore.
Sonnet I: "Quinquagenarian Quest"
Five times ten years have passed o’er my head,
A quinquagenarian, I now confess,
To mark this milestone, fifty miles I’ll tread,
A cycling challenge, surely no less.
My wife, Emily, leads this worthy cause,
Phoenix Bikes, a shop of noble aim,
To youth, they grant a bicycle’s applause,
A nonprofit venture, worthy of acclaim.
With father-in-law and wife, I’ll take the road,
Though slower paced, their speed I will admire,
To raise five hundred dollars, is my load,
A modest sum to fuel a worthy fire.
So lend a hand, dear friends, and help me grow
This noble effort, for the world to know.
