We're gonna do this again. Last year, I busted through barriers to reel off a metric century, edited only by worry about there being a "time cut".There wasn't. This time, the vintage Trek and and the equally vintage moi are going to run the full W&OD Trail.
So, this August, I'm participating in Raise + Ride to fundraise for Phoenix Bikes, an Arlington nonprofit that uniquely combines youth education programs with a full service bike shop. Phoenix is a fantastic organization that educates youth in grades 6-12 in bike mechanics, allows them to earn their very own bike for free, and gets them out riding, racing, and giving back to the community with their new skills. I will add that I had *nothing* like this growing up (such were the 1960's) and sometimes ponder how it would've improved my life back then. That's reason enough to give back in this place.
In addition to youth programs, Phoenix donates bikes to community members in need and provides affordable sales and service.
