Damaris is from Ngiini in Kitui county. She has six siblings, but only her and her older brother have attended high school. Her father is a farmer, and everyone in the family works on the farm with him. When she finished primary school, she was ashamed that she didn’t have the funds to pay for high school. She’s incredibly grateful to be a part of Daraja because “there are many who would have loved to get such an opportunity. It is a good chance for me to develop the leadership quality in me and give back to the community.” Damaris enjoys playing football and is a gifted singer. Her favorite subject in school is mathematics because it’s “all about practice.” Her dream is to become a lecturer at Mount Kenya University in mathematics and chemistry.
