I'm running with Neema!
Neema is from Mugunga Township. She is the 3rd of 5 children and the only girl. Her mother doesn’t work, and her father is a pastor and small farmer. When Neema was going to primary school, she was often sent home because she couldn’t pay school fees that equalled $2 a term. When she was at school, she sometimes had a hard time focusing because she was hungry. So when the time came to go to high school, there was just no way to pay for it. She watched her friends go off to school and fell into a deep depression. She would even hide inside her house during school breaks so her friends wouldn’t see that she was still at home. She feels like Daraja saved her and gave her hope again. She loves that the teachers at Daraja don’t care what background someone comes from, they teach all the girls equally and strive to help them in every way. Neema’s favorite subject is math, and in her free time she likes to sing. She hopes to one day become a software engineer.
