Evelyn is from the Kilifi area. She describes her village as clean and hard-working, but also full of ignorance. She is the 2nd of 4 children in a loving and supporting family, and she is proud that her family shows respect towards each other and their neighbors. Growing up, money was very tight. Evelyn recalls that it was common to gather together to pray to God for help getting their next meal when there was nothing to eat. Despite this hardship, Evelyn did well in school and earned her place at Daraja. She loves the camaraderie she has with her peers and says the provided meals are delicious. Her favorite subject is science, and in her free time she enjoys reading. Someday, she hopes to become a high school teacher. She loves the idea of sharing the gift of education, and she knows that with a good job she’ll be able to help her family.
