Jane is from Nakuru and is the oldest of six children. When she was young, her mom divorced their dad. He did not take the separation well and stalked the family for a time. Jane and her siblings were forced to spend time living on the street during this difficult period. Eventually, Jane moved in with her aunt, but she felt isolated from her aunt’s children. She felt that her aunt disliked Jane’s desire for an education. Jane’s mother wasn’t always able to pay the small fees required to attend primary school, so Jane was often sent home. Despite this, she did well in her classes and passed her 8th grade exam. She loves being at Daraja and appreciates that everyone there is welcome and equal. She is interested in debate and conservation, and she someday hopes to become a surgeon.
