I'm running with Ruman!
Ruman is from Nanyuki where her mother, sister, and grandmother live in a house on a mosque’s property. There they are supported by the mosque community. Ruman has a very close relationship with her grandmother and said, “I have to succeed because of my grandma. Once, she almost died because she used the money for medicine to pay my school fees.” At home, Ruman studied with a gas lamp, which was a challenge for her health. When they didn't have money for paraffin, she couldn't study after dark. Now she says, “the best thing at Daraja is that when I wake up and want to go to class, I don’t have to walk a very long distance in order to reach the class.” She wants to become a doctor after completing school so she can help her family and others in need.
