Running for Opportunity – Inspired by Ellie

For me, this run isn’t just about covering 260 miles from NYC to Washington, D.C.—it’s about breaking barriers for people with disabilities. My inspiration? My sister, Ellie.

I've seen firsthand how outdated laws like Section 14(c) limit opportunities for individuals with disabilities, allowing employers to pay them far below minimum wage. That’s why I am committed to fighting for change—so that Ellie, and others like her, can pursue meaningful careers with fair wages and real opportunities.

A Legacy of Advocacy

✔ Raised over $100,000 for GiGi’s Playhouse through an annual 10K run.
✔ Founded Dribble, a community-wide basketball clinic for kids with special needs.
✔ Lobbied Congress in 2019 for workplace protections under the Transformation to Competitive Employment Act (HR 873), securing a co-sponsorship from Representative Eliot Engel (D-NY).

The Mission: End Subminimum Wages

Now, I am ttaking action again—running alongside my dad, Bret Bowerman to push for the passage of the Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act (TCIEA). The goal? Raise $100,000 to fund a Day on the Hill lobbying effort, bringing this issue directly to lawmakers and expanding bipartisan support for real policy change.
