This summer, I'm trekking through the Rocky Mountains to raise awareness and funds for MPN research. Please join our "team" to find a CURE!
I was the guy that most hockey fans love to hate! As it turned out, especially Toronto Maple Leafs fans, for a missed high-sticking call when Wayne Gretzky clipped Leafs Captain Doug Gilmour in game 6 of the Western Conference Final in the ‘93 Stanley Cup Playoffs!
My name is Kerry Fraser, arguably the most recognized man in Stripes—perhaps as much for my “perfectly coiffed hair” as an ability to control Neanderthal types who carried hockey sticks like war clubs and utilized illegal tactics & intimidation whenever they could get away with it. Not on my watch however!
Joining the NHL ranks as a full-time referee in the 1980 season, success came quickly for Fraser en route to a record setting career, calling 1,904 regular season games (most in history), 261 Stanley Cup playoffs, selection to 12 Cup Finals (his first in 1985 as the youngest referee ever); the 1996 World Cup of Hockey in both Europe and gold medal round in North America; the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan; 2 NHL All-Star games; and the 2010 Winter Classic on New Year’s Day in Boston’s historic Fenway Park.
Kerry was overwhelmingly selected as the best referee in the NHL through independent polls of NHL players conducted annually by ESPN and the Toronto Sun, including in his final NHL season; 2009-10. Referee magazine selected Fraser as one of the top 10 officials of the century in any sport and he has been haled, arguably, as the most respected NHL referee to ever have blown a whistle.
Fraser learned many lessons in his journey through a storied NHL career with some of the greatest players & coaches the game has ever known. However, no one is ever fully prepared when their Doctor informs them they have an MPN - a rare, presently incurable blood cancer in the leukemia family - as Fraser was diagnosed with in 2018!
Kerry truly believes that many of the lessons he learned in the often hostile and aggressive arena of professional ice hockey has prepared him with life skills to never give up the fight, to assist in creating potential lifesaving awareness for others and to advocate & support a community of fellow MPN patients to manage our illness in the most productive and positive way possible. Working together as a team with a common goal, we will eventually find a CURE!
I am both honored & thrilled to part of the Soul 2 Soul team.
You’re the best, Kerry!

The landscape of MPN blood cancers is shifting, with emerging treatments and evolving perceptions that are bringing newfound hope to patients, caregivers, and clinicians. We are dedicated to supporting and uplifting the MPN blood cancer community and to investing in research initiatives globally that will lead to a better quality of life for our community.
We’ve partnered with “Sole2Soul for MPN” - an innovative collaboration with the CURE Media Group - to empower those who are closely impacted by MPN blood cancers. We’ve created a challenging program for inner adventure while raising funds to fuel change for those who face a debilitating incurable blood cancer.
Join us today to change the roadmap for MPN research leading to better treatments and cures
