Why I walk...
My Mom, Mary Jo, was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in December 2006. For sometime before her diagnosis she was feeling "off." What I now know is that she had symptoms of ovarian cancer. Bloating, feeling full quickly, and increasing frequency in urination can be symptoms of other and maybe less concerning issues. She had these symptoms during the busy Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday prep months. She acknowledged she needed to go to the doctor but waited until after Christmas when she wasn't too busy. Knowing your body and getting checked when symptoms (even if minor) persist is critical in effectively treating all diseases; but most especially ovarian cancer. With symptoms that are "mild" and easy to ignore, ovarian cancer can progress quickly and spread to other organs (metastasis) while waiting for a more convenient time to go to the doctor. Metastasis is responsible for about 90% of cancer deaths. This makes early detection critical.
Help Fight Ovarian Cancer!
While strides have been made in awareness and treatment, there is still more to do in the battle against ovarian cancer. Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation supports survivors and promotes research for more effective treatments/screenings. Their programs and efforts make a huge impact. Please be aware of the symptoms and spread that awareness! If you can, please join our team: Take a walk with us in Philly wearing teal to bring attention to the cause Participate virtually to spread awareness and support in your local area If you are unable to walk with us, please make a donation. Your donation is greatly appreciated and extremely beneficial. Thank you for your support!
