Animal Friends Alliance Backstory
Don't Stop Believin'! Together, we can reach our goal of raising $160,000 for animals in need.
Animal Friends Alliance was founded in 2006 as Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic and Animal House Rescue and Grooming. In 2020, the two organizations merged to form Animal Friends Alliance. Just last year, in 2022, we completed construction on an expansion at our Taft Hill campus and moved our cat shelter across town.
Not only does our organization provide outstanding new homes for adoptable dogs and cats, we also provide community assistance through our public clinic, pet food pantry, and community cat programs.
Hi Everyone! I'm Josie! I'm the Community Pet Resources Manager at Animal Friends Alliance. My page is going to show you all the amazing work our pet resource programs do to help our community and their pets. We work hard to provide options for pet owners to keep their companion animals in their loving homes and not have to resort to the shelter. Need pet food? We got it! Need low cost spay/neuter/vaccines? We got it! Have too many outdoor cats making lots of kittens? We got JAMES!
Come check out all the work we do and see why your donation matters. It all starts with the community!!!

Community Cats!
Part of my job is to field requests for Community Cat assistance! Caretakers in Northern Colorado do an AMAZING job caring for feral cats, but as well all know - 1 cat turns into 10 kittens FAST! Our super awesome Community Cat Program helps assist caretakers with trapping cats, getting them into our clinic for spay/neuter/vaccines, and brought back. If there are kittens, we work hard to get them into one of our selfless foster homes, get them fully vetted, spay/neutered, and found loving homes through our adoption program!
Helping from Far Away!
Our Community Pet Resources team knows that not everyone has equal access to assistance. We try so hard to do what we can when folks reach out, even from almost 2 hours away! Earlier this spring, we helped a gentleman in eastern Colorado get his five adult dogs spay/neutered through our low cost subsidized PAL+ (Prevent-a-Litter) Program. He decided to rehome 2 of the puppies into our care so they could continue getting the essential vet care they needed to grow up healthy. They entered our foster program and soon after their spay/neuter surgeries, were quickly adopted - look how fluffy!!!
Why DONORS Matter!
I'll never forget when I looked into our Kibble pantry and saw this completely empty shelf of cat food two days before our Kibble Distribution. We provide supplemental pet food assistance 2-3 times per month, easily distributing over 500 pounds of dry cat food at each one so that pets can continue to be healthy and fed in their homes. We put a plea out to our donors for cat food, and within 24 HOURS the shelf was FULL! I was SO THANKFUL! Your donation and continued support of Animal Friends Alliance is directly put into our programs to help pets and people. Your donation MAKES A DIFFERENCE!
Happy Tippi!
Helping this pup and her siblings was a big WIN for me! A community member reached out needing assistance for pet food. They had 2 German Shepherd adults and 5 puppies, plus a small mixed breed dog! WOW! We talked about possibly rehoming some of the puppies, but the owner wasn't ready to make that tough decision. I was able to keep providing pet food and worked on creating a trusting and positive relationship. German Shepherd's are sometimes perceived as too energetic, too protective, too loud. I knew that our team could help these pups be the best versions of themselves! A couple of months later the owner gave me a call saying they were overwhelmed, and ready to put their trust in our organization. We went right to work coordinating with our foster and shelter teams to make sure that if we could take these 5 month old puppies that they had the best time possible with us. With the help of an amazing volunteer wiling to go pick them up, Tippi (photgraphed) and two of her siblings joined us at our shelter! Her personality really shined through and we were able to get all three vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and adopted out SO quickly! We were also able to get the mom and dad dog, the last pup in the home, and the small dog fixed through our low cost spay/neuter program!! Not everyone chooses to trust us, but it's positive experiences like this that help us continue to be a thought of us as leader in our community.
Hank!
This was the day I met Niemann, and knew right away he needed to be mine! I'm thankful every day that our shelter works with partners from across the country to find happy dogs like this one and bring them here to find amazing homes! Niemann, now named Hank, was from Kansas and was in their shelter for over a month with no interest. Programs like this help our community find happy pets at our organization that are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and ready for fun! Lots of love for Hank!
Outdoor Loveable Giant :)
This is Matterhorn, a 15 POUND lovable giant! He was an outdoor cat that James, our Community Cat Coordinator trapped. We were pretty full in the shelter, and with how big he was it was going to be tough to keep him because he would need extra kennel space. But with a phenomenal adoption weekend, our shelter team was able to make space for him! We got him spayed/neutered AND he even got dental surgery by our amazing shelter vet Dr. M! This big lovable guy is going to be living quite the wonderful life now as an indoor king! Available now for adoption! :) ;)
