My name is Sydney, I'm the Animal Care Volunteer Coordinator here at Animal Friends Alliance! I've been working in animal welfare for almost 5 years now and I'm honored to be a part of the team here! Thanks for helping us reach our goal :)
I offer my donors a private tour of the shelter to visit animals and see how our work is done behind the scenes! If you are in the NOCO area and would like a tour as a 'thank you' for your donation, please reach out to me!
If you are not local to NOCO - I will mail you a thank you card with some fun stickers and send you a photo/video of an animal in the shelter that your donation is helping!
What I've been up to this year at the Alliance:
- This year we've really focused on volunteer appreciation! I have been posting volunteer spotlights for different departments each month, I helped start a new Valentines Day appreciation brunch, help start a new foster happy hour at the shelter, increased training and education oportunities for our volunteers, particiapted in a large scale survey on volunteer satisfaction and with that data personally implemented over 40 changes/adjustments in direct response to what our volunteers wanted, started sending weekly shelter updates to my cat and dog volunteers to help them feel like a cohesive and well informed team, and started a monthly gathering for cat behvior programming!
- I got certified in Racial Equity, Diversity, And Inclusion [redi] through C.A.R.E Companions and Animals for Reform and Equity
- Advocated for and collaborated on the implementation of a Compassion Fatigue Support Group program for alliance volunteers facing the difficult emotional impacts of compassion fatigue unique to animal welfare which launched in July of 2024! This project has been incredibly important to me!
- At the 2024 Gala I received a "Saving PAWS" award in the "Society" category!
- Working daily to improve the volunteer program and retain good people who help us save and care for animals!

Animal Friends Alliance was founded in 2006 as Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic and Animal House Rescue and Grooming. In 2020, the two organizations merged to form Animal Friends Alliance - an adoption-guarantee shelter and subsidized spay & neuter clinic. Since 2006, we have adopted out over 41,000 dogs and cats to loving homes, spayed and neutered over 100,000 dogs and cats between our clinic and shelter, and helped over 5,400 community cats through our Community Cat Program and Adoptions Program.
