Dr. Amanda's Saving Pets Challenge Page
Welcome to my personal page for The Real Housepets of the Saving Pets Challenge—where every dollar brings the drama down and the love up!
I’m fundraising for Animal Friends Alliance, a nonprofit that’s been saving lives and spreading love since 2006. What started as two separate rescues—Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic and Animal House Rescue and Grooming—became one fabulous force for good in 2020. Now they’re an adoption-guarantee shelter and affordable spay/neuter clinic helping animals in Northern Colorado and beyond.
Since their humble beginnings, Animal Friends Alliance has found loving homes for over 41,000 dogs and cats, spayed and neutered more than 100,000 pets (because we don’t do accidental litters OR unnecessary drama), and helped over 5,400 community cats live safely outdoors.
I’m helping them raise $200,000 during the Saving Pets Challenge, and I’d love your support. Whether it’s $5 or $500, your donation helps animals find homes, families, and second chances.
Join me in supporting this amazing cause—and let’s give these Real Housepets the spotlight they deserve.
As the Canine Behavior Veterinarian at Animal Friends Alliance, I am lucky to be able to work with shelter dogs and dogs owned by members of our community. By offering these affordable behavioral services, we are able to help keep dogs in the homes where they are already loved and cherished!
Even more exciting, this year, our newest addition, Big Boi 3000, is featured as one of the Real Housepets! This guy is a total goofball, and, even when he is being a bit "extra", you can't help but laugh at his antics. He is the definition of a meatball, and is totally hilarious in his enthusiasm for everything, always accompanied by that massive tongue!
Jazz
Jazz came to us from another regional shelter, where his jumpy and mouthy behavior was escalating despite training efforts. Jazz really, REALLY loves other dogs, and needed more time with other dogs to burn off that energy. Daily playgroups, as well as cohousing with other playful dogs for many hours a day, have really helped Jazz learn to be his best self! He's still looking for his perfect person.
Mowgli
Mowgli came to us from a regional shelter, where he was struggling to learn how to use his mouth appropriately. At just 3 months old, he would bite during play, and bite HARD. He also tended not to want to let go once he bit down. He desperately needed more exposure to other dogs who would help him learn how to use his mouth appropriately, and offer appropriate corrections for hard biting behavior. Thanks to his dedicated foster, Mowgli has come leaps and bounds from where he started. He's going to be a big boy when he grows up!
Frost
Frost was running stray in a Wyoming town for some time before he was able to be humanely trapped. After he was secured, he went to the local Animal Control facility to see if someone would come to reclaim him. No one came to get Frost, and he was very worried and shut down. The caring crew who had worked hard to trap and shelter him reached out for help, as the facility in Wyoming did not have the resources to support him and help him learn to trust. He came to us, where our staff, volunteers, and other dogs worked hard to show him it was okay to open up. Frost found a wonderful home with people who were excited to welcome him into the family.
Blueberry
Because of your support, Animal Friends Alliance can say "yes" to precious lives like little Blueberry. Born via c-section at the affordable surgical clinic where I work one day a week, it was discovered shortly after delivering her that she had a very severe cleft palate. Unfortunately, puppies with cleft palates cannot nurse normally, as they run a great risk of inhaling the milk and developing aspiration pneumonia. Blueberry's owners were not prepared for the intense level of care raising a cleft palate puppy would require, but the only other option for Blueberry was euthanasia. We couldn't let that happen, so agreed to take her on. She came home with me for one night, and then moved to an incredibly experienced foster. She required tube feeding every few hours, and will need surgery to hopefully repair her cleft palate when she is a bit older.
Prairie and Wild Iris
These two sisters were brought into the spay and neuter clinic on the Wind River Reservation. They had nowhere to go, and poor Wild Iris had porcupine quills stuck in her nose. Both girls were terrified of everything- it was evident that they had never been on leashes, and new people, sounds, and sights were incredibly scary and stressful for them. Animal Friends Alliance agreed to take them in, and they truly blossomed with the help of our dedicated staff and volunteers!
Iced T and Boba
These two shy adolescent Cane Corsos came to us from a regional shelter where they did not have the resources to work on their socialization and fearful behavior. They were shy but so, so sweet, and were adopted separately into loving, understanding families.
