Seido Karate at Thousand Waves (our much loved dojo where we study martial arts) is a large part of the Danzig household. On a typical Monday or Thursday you will find some of us camped out at the dojo for up to 4 hours. The dojo requires much funding to pay for self-defense workshops offered in communities around the city; scholarships (the dojo will accept anyone wishing to train regardless of financial status); and the Adapted Seido Karate (ASK) program that allows young people with disabilities to train.

This year we are working as a family to raise money for our dojo's annual fundraising event. This event is called "Spirit Challenge" and is composed of a week of activities and workshops instead of classes, including board-breaking, meditation, falling 101, and many others. This year's Spirit Challenge also includes the "Punch & Kick-a-Thon" -- an event in which participating students and teachers do 1,000 punches and 1,000 kicks!

Ezra has been taking karate at Thousand Waves for 4-5 years (we don't actually remember). Simone and Adrian have been taking classes since September 2014. Leslie recently began taking classes in Fall 2015. As a family, we think we have taken just over 470 karate classes.

This year, Thousand Waves’ fundraising goal is $110,000. Our family's goal is $1,000. If you could donate any amount no matter how small (or large!) to this wonderful dojo, it would be gratefully appreciated by all of us.
